What are our goals?

As expressed in the Comprehensive Plan - Our goal must be to “Protect the character and integrity” of our City. “To encourage conservation of open space… and promote preservation”, and again to “Preserve and enhance the character” of the City.

When we review the results of the online Town Forum we find - 75% of the respondents said the single most important goal for our city was to “Protect and enhance Williamsburg’s unique character”. 

How are we doing?

Current growth

• High street will add over 540 units.
• Quarterpath is seeking 1,374 units.
• Digges Building approved on South Henry Street.
• Another subdivision coming next to Digges Building.
• American Health Evaluation Center approved.
• Recent changes in downtown zoning to encourage MORE building.

What is our history?

We are pushing for growth and more growth - here is a short history of Quarterpath:

• 1998 Comprehensive plan recommended 195 units total.
• 2005 discussions / rezoning brings number up to  995 units.
• 2008 revised proposal brings the total number up to 1,374 units (now under review for approval).

1,374 is a 700% increase from the originally recommended 195 units.

Can we achieve these goals with this level of growth?

With High Street at over 540 units and Quarterpath at 1,374 units; this will mean over 1900 new units. A quick estimate shows the addition of 3,800 cars and persons (based on a conservative 2 persons per unit). That’s over a 30% increase in our city's population in a very short period of time!
