Green Space

Green space is a key ingredient for maintaining the character and visual beauty of our city. The importance of green areas, trees and open spaces cannot be overstated.

In addition to its history and architecture, it is the quality of green space that gives Colonial Williamsburg its great appeal. The planners of this colonial city knew this importance. Open sky, field and trees are what make our town a special place to visit.

The City now has 32% of its nine square miles reserved as sensitive “no build” areas or park space. This is encouraging, however much of this land is separate from the downtown area and rests isolated and apart. Green space is needed in the midst of the urban areas as well.

I would support any efforts by government to secure by lawful means, in voluntary purchase from the landowners, those tracts of land that have yet to be developed, in order to preserve what natural and open areas we can for future generations.
